The GLOBCARBON VGCP product is derived from the GLOBCARBON LAI products.
It is a yearly product containing information on the growth season.
It is generated as an aggregated product from the VEGETATION and ATSR
sensors with a possible separate MERIS LAI product.
This product can be used directly
to evaluate the growth season of vegetation as well as input for carbon
cycle models.

CAVEAT 3: missing LAI data southern hemisphere 01-06/1998
LOESS SHIFT explanation
Due to the approach adopted for GBP, LAI values for the first half of each
year can be processed completely only if LAI values for the previous year are
available. Since no data is available for 1997, the LAI images for the first
half of 1998 will not have total coverage in the southern hemisphere.
The image below shows the LOESS time window shift passing from northern to
southern hemisphere. The program LOESS performs the smoothing and interpolation
on annual basis. The LOESS input consists of the LAI values for all the decades
of the processed year and the first 18 decades of the following year.
